Blue Footed Boobies – Fact 3

June 16, 2011 § Leave a comment

Friday June 17th is Blue Footed Booby Day – to help celebrate we decided  to do a fun week of Blue Footed Booby Facts.

The courtship of the Blue-footed Booby consists of the male flaunting his blue feet and dancing to impress the female. During the dance, the male will spread his wings and stamp his feet on the ground. When mating, the female parades and the male points his head and tail high to the sky and his wings back to show off to the female. The male Blue-footed Booby also makes a high-piping whistle noise. The dance includes the males lifting their blue feet high and throwing their heads up. Blue-footed Boobies are normally monogamous.

If you are in the UK to donote to the Galapagos Conservation Trust Blue Footed Booby Day – It’s as simple as sending a text, just send ‘BFBD11 £2‘ (or any amount up to £10) to 70070.
